about

Turning Point is a collection of original compositions by members of Ezekiel's Wheels interleaved with traditional klezmer melodies.

Ch'sideshe Niggunim: A hora adapted form an Abe Schwartz recording followed by two Chassidic tunes with klezmer roots, Moshe Emes and Meron Nign. Moshe Emes is played over the Romanian ca la breaza rhythm.

Doina for Duke: Abigale opens with a doina set to accompaniment inspired by Duke Ellington's Mood Indigo. The next is an original by Nat, followed by two traditional klezmer tunes.

Nat's Nign: An original melody by Nat.

Johannes Khosidl: Abigale composed this tune under the influence of a Bach fugue.

Barry's Bulgar: An original bulgar by Jon.

Traveler's Terkisher: A set of traditional tunes tied together by Nat's original melody. The first features the EW string section. The second, featuring Pete, was adapted from a recording of the Other Europeans, who cobbled it together from a pair of terkishers played by Naftule Brandwein.

Fiddler's Sirba: Jon's original tune is punctuated by a doina from the Banat region of Romania he learned from Marin Bunea and is followed by a popular klezmer fiddle tune.

Arthur and the KCB: Nat wrote the first tune in honor of Arthur the Aardvark, one of his favorite fictional characters. The second was written by Beresh Katz, recorded by the Epstein Brothers Orchestra, and transmitted to Ezekiel's Wheels via the Klezmer Conservatory Band.

Dobranotsh: A traditional melody from the Beregovski collection selected by and featuring Kirsten.
